My psp firmware is 4.01 M33-2.
I have followed the steps, Section E – Install custom firmware 5.00 M33, but failed on unpacking file 500.pbp. It says, “incorrect file.”
    Why?

  4. yk on January 15th, 2009 at 12:41 am

Hi drchanix, did you rename the official firmware to 500.pbp?

  5. Azrol on January 21st, 2009 at 8:05 pm

my psp now update v. 5.03 (official firmware) but i can’t play game that i save on my m2. cant go to recovery mode too. please help me..

  6. yk on January 22nd, 2009 at 11:19 pm

Azrol, you will have to downgrade your firmware first. You might need to utilize the Pandora’s battery. Search the internet for it. I have not used it before and therefore, I cannot post any instructions or how-tos.

  9. yk on February 5th, 2009 at 10:04 am

John, did you rename the original firmware to 401.pbp once you unpacked it?

  12. cis on March 7th, 2009 at 11:18 am

sir thank u very much, works great.just a clarification in section C official firmware is already a 401.PBP when i DownLoad it,so theres no need to change the name just to clarify. and i skiped step C.4 under section C in my experience cause im using a psp 2001 model slim.i jumped to c.5 instruction.again thank you sir.

  13. yk on March 7th, 2009 at 3:28 pm

cis, thanks for your clarification. You’re right, the official firmware is already named 401.PBP, so no rename is necessary.

Thanks for your comment, it will help the others when they follow the guide.

  18. yk on March 24th, 2009 at 2:56 pm

Hi Richie, what was your custom firmware version before you updated to 4.01 M33?

  19. ToT on March 27th, 2009 at 1:29 pm

hi, i just have a some questions before i upgrade my cfw.

do i need a pandora battery for this to work
    and
can i go straight from my cfw 3.90 m33-2 to 5.0 m33-6 without going through the other cfw’s in between?

thank you very much, it’s my first time to upgrade my cfw. i’m just so scared that i might mess things up and end up working for another 8months to buy another psp.

  20. yk on March 27th, 2009 at 2:54 pm

    Hi ToT,

You don’t need a Pandora Battery to upgrade since you already have cfw 3.90 M33-2.

I’ve read that you can upgrade straight from 3.90 M33 to 5.00 M33 straight but I have not tried that before and therefore, I can’t tell you that it works 100%.

What you can do is to follow the Installing PSP custom firmware 5.00 M33-6 guide and start from Section C.

  21. ToT on March 27th, 2009 at 2:56 pm

    thanks so much

  22. ToT on March 27th, 2009 at 4:52 pm

  32. yk on May 5th, 2009 at 11:29 pm

Hi k, I do not have my PSP with me now so I couldn’t tell you exactly which menu to go to in the Recovery menu. It should say game folder version or something similar.

  33. Hellz on May 8th, 2009 at 2:29 am

K, uhhh i got custom firmware 3.80, can i go right to 5.00 without doing any of the other steps. If yes, which section i start from.

Also i am not sure if this is correct, but my friend told me you can update from network update on your psp. It will update right to latest custom firmware, rather then offical firmware.

    Thanks yk!!

    You made one sick guide

  34. yk on May 8th, 2009 at 5:55 pm

Hi Hellz, thanks for your comment.

I’ve heard that you can update straight from 3.80 to 5.00 but I haven’t tried it, so I cannot vouch for it.

As for the network update on a CFW psp, I’ve seen people who have successfully done it, but again, I have not done it before so I cannot guarantee the result. I am kinda paranoid with network update so I dare not try it.

  35. David on May 27th, 2009 at 10:40 am

  40. yk on July 10th, 2009 at 7:01 pm

Hi ken, I think you will need a pandora’s battery to change from the OFW that you have now to CFW.

I use a different hack…so if I change to this firmware, will all my saves get deleted?

  46. yk on September 1st, 2009 at 10:12 am

Hi xXMoogleXx, you can backup your save game files before doing the upgrade but there are reports that certain save games do not work in the newer version of the firmare.
